All caffeinated and no place to go.

I wasn't going to blog much tonight, because I'm feeling all complainy. But with the asset server going flooie, I suppose it's God's way of telling me "Go ahead and kvetch, little schlemazl." That or "It's time to do some real work, shmendrek." So yesterday I posted about all this stuff I was working on. Ever have one of those days where nothing works? Everything you try to do goes... well.. flooie? I've had two. In a row. So today, rather than work on stuff from The List, I figured I'd just go freeform. And I came up with this:Now when making a vehicle, I break the scripting into two parts: vehicle routines and everything else. "Everything else" can include lights, things going transparent, sounds, particles, etc. My order of work is:

  1. Model
  2. "Everything Else" scripting.
  3. Textures
  4. Vehicle routines
  5. Debug
  6. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I'll probably go through three iterations before I'm mostly satisfied with it. I'd planned to make this vehicle work only underwater, except for short rocket propelled jumps (for getting over obstacles). The transparent sphere part will not be there when the vehicle is docked (still conceptually working out the docking bit, since not many people have underwater docks). Jets, lights, pingy noises. Turning will be rotating in place, not turning in an arc. Not sure whether velocity will be throttle set or what. Still lots to do!

And the asset server goes tits up. I'm a bit frustrated, but to put things in perspective, I'm not starving (although I am a might peckish), I have a roof over my head, my material well being isn't on the line, nor are those of my loved ones. So nothing to truly be upset about. Still... I've had all this caffeine and have no good outlet!
