Ain't that the way it always happens?
I've been sorta back in SL the last few days. I've been on a couple of week hiatus getting some RL stuff sorted. Nothing bad, just time consuming.
Since I've been back I've finished two projects (I think) but they're scripty and so there's no good way to take a screenshot of them. The first is a voting system, inspired by Zonax Delorean's Big Board o' Voting (not the actual product name). You place buttons by the things you're wanting people to vote for, change the description of the buttons to set the hover text and voila. It supports both simple one person -> one vote voting as well as complex multiple votes per person point based voting. I made it for the Caledon Kiosk Building Contest (not the actual contest name) and it entirely didn't work on the first try. But with about an hour of debugging help from Serra Anansi, it was all good.
The other product was the actual coding for the Caledon Information Kiosks. The scripts allow for networked thingy distribution (for certain values of "thingy" such as notecards, objects, textures, etc.) so that the information in the kiosks may be updated in one place, and all of the outlying kiosks will update themselves automatically. Fun! I haven't heard back yet from Serra if she's had an opportunity to try it out, so it too may be riddled with bugs.
So today I decided to rework my blog hud such that it a) used the blogger API and b) had buttons instead of chat commands to make it work. I was able to get the thing authenticating but due to esoteric technical matters cannot make it post as of yet.
Since I was only logging in because I was having similar roadblocks with RL work, I must admit to a bit of frustration. I feel like one of those toy robots that you set to moving and it goes until it hits a wall, whereupon it backs up and turns and starts going again. Ever put one of those in a small enclosed space so it's constantly backing and filling? Yeah. That's me today.
Which only means time to pause this project while we start on the next one!
