Shoemaking...

Not the literal kind, unfortunately; I'll leave that for another day. No, "shoemaking" is a term I use to describe a certain kind of work. There's creative work, fun work, then there's the work that is necessary, needed and highly important, but entirely boring. Usually this boringness comes from the fact that the work is either something one has done a million times before, or it's something one considers non-creative or that one has no inclination towards.

Ordinal Malaprop has written an excellent post about the shoemaking involved in selling products for SL. I'll wait here a moment while you go read it. No, no. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Back? Right-o.

Lately I've been dithering with my building. Partly because of RL work craziness, but mostly because once I reach a certain point, all I will have left is the shoemaking. And even moreso than most people, I loathe and despise shoemaking. I avoid it like the plague, procrastinate over it and generally make it into a much bigger deal than it really is.

And that's what I'm doing now. The designs are done for my two remaining jewelry lines. I could whip them out in a couple of days. I've got another vehicle nearly done except for some tweaking of the physics code (tweaking often comes under the rubric of shoemaking as well) and pretty much the rest of my initial product line is done. Which means I need to embark on Ordinal's Nine Step Process shortly. I don't think "dread" is the right word, but it comes close.

If RL work weren't also in a busy shoemaking phase, maybe I wouldn't be as avoidy, but then again maybe that's just something I tell myself.

On the good news front, the screenshot bug that has been making me crash is fixed in the preview. Which, of course, means that I'll have even less excuse to avoid the shoemaking. Ah well, it'll be worth it to be able to take photos freely again.
